About Gordon

A lifetime of showing up.

Gordon Skulnec has spent his whole life showing up for the Kootenays.

He was born and raised in the West Kootenays, and he and his wife have been married for 19 years, raising their family here.

Gordon started his working life in health care, as a medical radiographer at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail. Then he put on the uniform, serving 17 years as a general duty RCMP officer in the East Kootenays, starting in Cranbrook and retiring from the Kimberley detachment in May 2023.

In 2019 he earned the Alexa's Team award after he and two fellow Kimberley officers took more than 100 impaired drivers off the roads in and around the community.

For the past 20 years he has also run a small business as a rental housing provider and property manager, working with landlords and tenants alike. For the past decade he has operated a business in Salmo.

But ask around Cranbrook and people will tell you Gordon's real passion is the kids. He started as a youth group leader in Trail and spent four years coaching Cranbrook Minor Baseball. Today he serves as Director of Baseball for the Cranbrook Minor Ball Association and drives the team bus for the Cranbrook Bandits. Faith anchors his family life. They attend Connect Church, where Gordon helps lead the men's group.

Gordon brings a humble heart and a willingness to listen. He is running to work alongside the people of Kootenay Central and build real progress for their communities.

Priorities

What Gordon will fight for.

Safer communities

Seventeen years in an RCMP uniform taught Gordon what it takes to keep communities safe, and Nelson's police chief calls chronic repeat offenders the city's high priority issue. He will be a strong voice for public safety in Victoria.

Housing that gets built

Kootenay home prices have jumped 65 percent in five years. Twenty years as a rental housing provider showed Gordon what red tape does to housing supply. He will push for housing policy that actually builds homes.

Health care that shows up

Nelson has lost walk in care and rural ERs keep facing temporary shutdowns. Gordon started his career on the front lines of health care. He knows the system from the inside and will fight for the care Kootenay families deserve.

Jobs close to home

A decade running a business in Salmo. Gordon knows what it costs to create jobs in small town BC, with forestry, a core Kootenay employer, losing 15,000 jobs since 2022. He will fight to keep more of that opportunity at home.

The riding

Kootenay Central

From Nelson to Creston, Salmo to Kaslo, across the eastern Central Kootenay to the US border. These are Gordon's home communities, and he is asking for the chance to represent them in Victoria.
